Thinking about a dream, the scary ones, the ones they call nightmares. That is what Brown, the main character in Young Goodman Brown, the shorty story by Nathaniel Hawthorne, went through. Though some may argue that it was real, giving evidence like they are in Salem, which is known for witches. Also, how did the ribbon that Faith has been in the foreset or if it is fake then why does Brown believe it so much that he can't even be the same around Faith? But for me, I think he was sleeping the whole time.
In the story, Hawthrone writes this, "it was a dream of evil omen for young Goodman Brown." Heaven tells us, in fact, it is an evil dream. I think Faith as well was still innocent. If Brown took this path to the forest and eventually came across Faith then how did he not pass her up on the way there? How did she get home first as well? If she lost one of her ribbons, then when Brown got back, why did she still had her two? It just doesn't add up to make it real and not a dream.
I think Hawthrone's theme of his story is about good vs evil. He uses allusion, to make a reference to another source that the author believes the reader knows, to bring the reference of Adam & Eve (temptation). His tone was very grave, he was establishing this setting of suspense and was artistic with each character. Making twists and leaving us to think carefully. I want to add that the pink ribbon is symbolism. I believe it represents innocents which would help my claim that Faith is innocent and it was all a dream. He is corrupting innocent people and making good people believe that everything is evil. It is a battle between the two.
Altogether, I believe that it was all a dream. The evidence that I have shows that it can't possibly be real.
