My Essay Essay

Thinking about a dream, the scary ones, the ones they call nightmares. That is what Brown, the main character in Young Goodman Brown, the shorty story by Nathaniel Hawthorne, went through. Though some may argue that it was real, giving evidence like they are in Salem, which is known for witches. Also, how did the ribbon that Faith has been in the foreset or if it is fake then why does Brown believe it so much that he can't even be the same around Faith? But for me, I think he was sleeping the whole time.

In the story, Hawthrone writes this, "it was a dream of evil omen for young Goodman Brown." Heaven tells us, in fact, it is an evil dream. I think Faith as well was still innocent. If Brown took this path to the forest and eventually came across Faith then how did he not pass her up on the way there? How did she get home first as well? If she lost one of her ribbons, then when Brown got back, why did she still had her two? It just doesn't add up to make it real and not a dream.

I think Hawthrone's theme of his story is about good vs evil. He uses allusion, to make a reference to another source that the author believes the reader knows, to bring the reference of Adam & Eve (temptation). His tone was very grave, he was establishing this setting of suspense and was artistic with each character. Making twists and leaving us to think carefully. I want to add that the pink ribbon is symbolism. I believe it represents innocents which would help my claim that Faith is innocent and it was all a dream. He is corrupting innocent people and making good people believe that everything is evil. It is a battle between the two.

Altogether, I believe that it was all a dream. The evidence that I have shows that it can't possibly be real.

My thesis statement

I think I would write about the religious aspects, not because I'm religious but because I'm not. I would like to write about it and do some research so maybe this helps me understand the story more. I understood the Adam & Eve reference but other than that I was totally unsure about other things. I think without because it will be the writer decision to be free. Not pressured into writing a certain way, or a certain about of paragraphs.

Read Talk Understand

Most students hate writing essays and they get angry, stressed and even shake.
When being more sympathetic people are most likely going to be more productive.
Montaigne said you can't win if you don't play.
Write freely.

I liked how Dr. Preston read it, mainly because he read it clearly and he did explain more into the text after he read it. So times, it is better for the author to read what he wrote because he is the one that knows what is going on, and how he writes.

Young Old Good Bad

I think he wrote this story because it had to bring out many important aspects. Even though it was fiction it did have things in the story that he didn't make up. Religion, location, and people. He made a spooky story with a background to support it. I have read IT by Stephen King and with the way he writes compared to Hawthorne is very different. So, I am lead to believe that King liked it so much because it was a different kind of scary. Involving religion and actual places. It just shows that people can have a large imagination and they can be quite creative. Who knows how they get words on a paper to frighten people. The words just find a way to disturb them.

Literature Analysis (Fiction)

1. The story was about demigods (half-human and half-gods) that have learned their prophecy and they are having to go figure it out on themselves. One of the main characters lost his memories and he got a vision and he tried to get his memory back again. Another has abilities that only powerful demigods have but they are known to bring bad luck. Then there is another girl that has a famous actor and she is just trying to live her normal life. Then an oracle comes to her and says that she needs to set her free. From there they all set off on their adventures but have troubles.

2. The theme to me is Identification. They were all living their own lives and then they just come to figure out, their life is not 100% true. They figure out who they really are and become who they were meant to be.

3. I think he would be the type to get up early and get a cup of hot tea or coffee. Just sit down and began to write his novels with a grin. Knowing that he is going to leave the readers losing there mind.

4. He used similes, personification, metaphors, and hyperbole. Even used onomatopoeia. As for the tone that is difficult to say, the book jumps to three different people's perspective. For each person the author embodied them, going from persuasive, heroic, and confused.

I know that we are supposed to write something out but I was gone this day. Missing one day in this class and it feels like you were gone forever. I got these notes and I am still trying to figure out how to respond to this question. I don't think I can. So this is going to be my post unless it gets reverted in my drafts.

So this guy goes for a walk

It seems very interesting. It is cool to read something with such a review from a well-known author. I like how he is using symbolism, allusion, and these other literacy devices. I am getting a bit lost as we read this. I didn't even know what Salem was until today. I didn't understand what the deal was with the wife and her pink ribbon. I didn't care for the whole religious part. I am not religious so half of it I didn't even understand. I am not a catholic or a Christian but I'm not an atheist either. I am unsure.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

1. He wanted us to tell us that we make a choice, we can believe in angels or you can believe that people are evil. He has a choice to make it's good or evil.

2. Goodman saw faith to be his happiness and the person that he can count on. But after the walk through the woods, he feels like he can't trust her. He thinks she is lying about him having nightmares. She seemed to only care about him regarding the parts outside the forest, running to him giving him a kiss.

3. I think it symbolizes innocents. Whenever I think of ribbons, especially pink ones, I think of a little innocent girl. That might be there the author was leading. Goodman didn't think she could be evil because she was so innocent.

4. I think he could have been dreaming because he did sleep in the forest. Had Goodman Brown fallen asleep in the forest, and only dreamed a wild dream of a witch-meeting." Though some may argue that he could have woke up. Then again, he could've.

5. It was the devil. The devil according to some it can take any form. So in this writing, it took the form of an old man. I believe it was the devil because a girl walked by and screamed, "the devil."

6. I think it is representing the snake from the story Adam & Eve. Then he continous into the forest like the girl does with the apple. She goes on due to curiosity.

7. I think he probably would still be the same because I think he is dreaming. So, I am sure he would have the dream of the whole thing all over but at home. Leading him to be afraid of everything.
